On Friday, April 10, several tornadoes hit the Murfreesboro area. I have never experienced something so traumatic this close to home before. One of the tornadoes hit the neighborhood where our first home was off Compton Rd in North Murfreesboro. Very scary to see homes that you drove past everyday completely ravaged. Pictures and images on tv just don't convey... you have to see it yourself to truly understand.
A family in our church lost their home to the tornado. Luckily they were out of town when the tornado hit. On the other hand, they learned by phone call that their home was destroyed. Not good news to receive while on vacation. Other families in our church had damage to their homes as well, but not nearly as bad.
On Saturday, Brian and I and many other church members went to the Olsen's former home to help clean up and ended up helping a couple of their neighbors as well. Here are some of the pictures from that day...
This is what the Olsen's home looked like when I arrived Saturday around noon. Keep in mind this is after clean up part of the day before and Saturday morning.
This is a picture of what once was the their living room. Notice there is no front wall.
This a side view of their house. The kitchen is behind this wall.
This is their neighbor's house. It belongs to a young couple who has one child and expecting another in less than a month.
This is the house directly behind theirs. It got moved off its foundation.
This is a picture of a funnel cloud that started to form in the Barfield area right down the road from us. One of Brian's coworkers took this from the front door of Fox's Pizza. Apparently it started to come down and then went back up. Otherwise, we might not have been so lucky.
Please keep all those affected by this tragedy in your prayers.
